Hello everyone,
I really need some advice and support.
Our neighbors were feeding a stray skinny cat for quite a long time and as nobody claimed the cat we decided to adopt him. Prior to introducing Joe to our cat we took him to the vet for a check-up and feline leukemia test (was negative). The vet put Joe on antibiotics as he thought the cat had upper respiratory infection. Antibiotics didn't help (we tried two different kinds) , the kitty still coughs and makes wheezing sounds. Today we took Joe in for X-rays and it showed that he has fluid in his lungs. Our vet was too busy to look at X-rays and examine the cat (we took him to a different clinic as our vet doesn't have an X-ray machine).
My husband will take Joe in for a thorough check-up to our vet on Wednesday.
Right now I only know that Joe has a fluid built up in his lungs and that X-rays doesn't show any particulat problem which could cause it.
I'm really worried about our new cat, Joe is a sweetheart and needs your prayers. And I need some information and input on what the possible cause of his problem can be.
Our vet mention that it could be FIP (feline infectious peritonitis) but I find it hard to believe as Joe doesn't look sick, he has no fever, he eats well, runs around and grooms a lot. Breathing problems (wheezing and coughing) doesn't seem to bother him much. We have him for about a month and his health stays the same- neither gets better nor worse.
The vet also said that it could be caused by a trauma to his chest in the past (like a cae accident or fall) or it could be heart problems.
What do you think? I just had to talk to somebody and ask somebody for advice.
I will appreciate any input.
Thank you,
Irina
Fluid in lungs
Re: Fluid in lungs
anything would be a guess but being asymptomatic except for the lung problems there is a posibility of feline asthma but wait for results tomorrow and then post please...
Re: Fluid in lungs
Thank you, Davet,
I also suspected that it could be asthma but our vet didn't think so. X-rays showed a little fluid in lungs (in the bottom part) and there's no way to tell what's causing the problem. Our vet says it could be anything from heart problems to some old recurrent infection.
We put the kitty on antibiotics again and on diuretics. he's been on medication for three days only but I don't see any results yet. I hope he'll get better soon.
Thanks,
Irina
