Diet/ How do I feed 6 cats with different needs?

Post by cin »

I have 6 indoor cats. (two are over weight) One is 7 years old & weighs 13 lbs. As a kitten she was nervous, frightened abused kitten and threw up constantly. I helped her through that, now holds her food down but is over weight. The 3 year old is 1 lb overweight at 9 lbs. The other four are ok at 8 lbs. My problem is I am confused about cat food. I've read about a natural raw diet which seems to make sense, but I don't know if I could do it or if it is the best diet. They all have different needs so how do I feed them? The kittens eat Purina Kitten Chow. (But I know the others get at their food) The adults eat Purina regular and sometimes I change to other Purina products. I also mix one can of cat food between them with their dry food in the morning. I have been weening them off that though. The kittens should be able to eat all the time but I know my over weight cat sneaks and binges. What really is the best course of action to take. How mch should they eat? Should I watch them eat and remove their food immed? What do you think is the best type of dry food? I' really like to get a handle on this before it becomes too difficult. I hope someone can offer some precise plans of action.

perhaps i missed it, but it sounds like you have two groups of eaters...one adult group and one kitten.

even if you have three, i would recommend not roam feeding them but 2-3 times a day feeding and have a room for each group that you put them in for about 20 minutes or so each to be sure all of them are eating.

Thanks Jason,
I never really thought of that. I actually have three groups. One over weight, kittens and then two normal younger cats. I presently monitor when they eat so they arent really raoming but then I leave foof out for the kittens. I'll try that. thanks .Cin
