I had my cats back claws removed a couple of weeks ago, and now it seems that he is acting strange. For some reason he has decided that his litter box is not good enogh anymore, and has taken to peeing on the dogs bed (1) and then just last night he decided to pee on my leather coach. I decided to remove his front and back claws because he was destroying my furniture and I have a young daughter. Milo, the cat is 9 months old and he was doing fine with his litter box until this week. Could declawing be a result of his bad behavior or what? Please help me with this issue. Thanks.

Declawing causing abnormal behavior
Re: Declawing causing abnormal behavior
this is a pattern that so many cats exchibit wether declawed or not. i have no idea why they do this but it is either a territorial problem oran establishment problem but it also could be a urinary prooblem....not an unusual processbut i don't have an answer than confinement for a while with several boxes...
Re: Declawing causing abnormal behavior
were you using yesterday's news (or similar) for one week post-declaw? im wondering if some foriegn object has become lodged, like a piece of litter maybe.
i second davet's suggestion (not that i needed to ) to confine with a couple litter boxes, keep them clean. if the "behavior" continues then it's time to get your cat checked for possible uti.

Re: Declawing causing abnormal behavior
Please have your kitty seen by your vet to ensure the declaw isn't presenting some problem. A possible UTI could also cause your kitty to urinate outside the box.
It could also be that your kitty may need time to get used too or feel better from the declaw and the litter may be causing pain or an uncomforable sensation at this time. But please see your vet on this, just to be on the safe side.
I had a cat declawed once, vet botched it and by having him seen right away could have been what saved his life.

Your vet did the back paws?? I didn't think they did that anymore.
Anyway, it is quite possible your cat is in pain. I would have him/her checked out by your vet. I think your kitty is trying to tell you something and the fact that he had his claws removed, tells me it is likely that he is hurting.
Good luck.
