I just moved in with a roommate who has a cat and I have two cats. My cats eat Iams and her cat has an urinary tract problem so he is on a special diet. One of my cats, who is supposed to eat Iams, sneaks around and ends up eating some of my roommate's cat's special diet food. I'm wondering if this is bad for him.
It is so hard to monitor the food all the time. I really doubt this food is lacking any special elements that a cat needs to be 100% healthy with regards to his diet. The only thing it is lacking is what causes urinary tract infections. Am I right to assume that this food, in small doses, is not bad for my cat?
Thank you for your input.

Re: Diet related
it's probably just fine, however you may want to run this by your vet who knows (in medical detail) the conditions of your other cat and will know if this diet is ok or not.
some cats may have a naturally higher pH and thus a diet high in pH would be bad, so run it by your vet to be sure.
you also want to be sure that the uti cat is not eating the normal food as to not treat her condition properly.

Agree with Jason to discuss this with your vet as there are some factors to take into consideration. It may really depend on the food and the age of your kitty.
I experienced the same type of problem initially in my kitty household...My Smokey has a history of calcium oxalate crystal and because my Caz was so young, if he would eat Smokey's food, he would be placed at risk of developing struvite crystals.
God luck to you....
