Behavioral question
I have multi animal households, as we also rescue abused German Shepherds. To help ease the transition between the two animals. I would take an old towel you don't care that much about, and rub down skittle really well. Then using the same towel, rub down Velcro, keep rubbing both animals blending their smells, then take the towel, lay it on the floor of the room where Velcro is and put something mighty tasty right on top of it for Velcro. Not on a plate, but on the towel itself. This has always worked for me, and I do it with all the newcomers that arrive here.

I wouldn't recommend that, MA, if you were to do it, you should reverse the procedure, as dogs have far more mites and other outdoor 'lovelies' than cats. This is also how many skin conditions (mites, fleas, ringworm, mange, etc) get transmitted.
I would suggest instead, using cornstarch, sprinkle a tiny amount on fur of each pet, brush through and you have the same scent on each pet.
