Queen with one one kitten?

Post by CatNap »

Is it normal for a queen to only have one kitten? My mother took in a stray queen and she delivered one kitten about 3 hours ago. She shows no more signs of labor or delivery. I have never heard of only one kitten in a litter, is this possible??

I called the vet and he didn't seem too concerned. He said that its not unheard of to only have 1 kitten but rare. He said that cats are funny and he has seen them go 2-3 days between delivering kittens! Everything I have read says that this is way too long in between. It has been 24 hours now and there is still only 1 kitten. The queen doesn't seem to be in any distress and is going about her normal daily activities, along with taking care of her baby.
