Subject: Oprah and Letters
Hi all-----Herb , Willem Wijnberg & Jean Cheesman have been discussing & putting together some letters, on the subject of puppy mills (& pet stores) to be sent to Oprah Winfrey; in hopes of getting her to do an episode on the subject. As many of you know, Oprah is a dog lover & her show is fantastically popular, all over the world. However, she may not be aware of the actual situations that these animals live & die in. So far, we have collected letters, about puppy mills, and the need for changes, from places such as the Netherlands, England & Australia. Now, we need some more from the good old USA. We, as dog lovers, need to educate Oprah on the subject and, where possible, give here some places to get more information. Herb & I have a very good "connection" who can get these letters directly to Oprah (no kidding, a good connection). Now, the dogs sitting in puppy mills need you to write your thoughts on the subject, as animal lovers and knowledgeable owners, and put them in letters/ e-mails. If all of you can do this & send them to Herb and I; we will compile them, for
our "source"; and get the ball rolling. I know I do not need to tell you why we need to shed some light on this subject---if we don't, things will never change. A fact (& emotional) based show on this subject would be seen by and influence LOTS of folks. A letter seems a small, but possible crucial way that you can help. So, type away! You can e-mail us directly, or snail mail us at 416 Shelly Rd. Laurens, NY 13796.
We'll look forward to seeing your letters. Take care & hug your lucky
dogs!

Re: Puppy mill letters to Oprah
I first saw this posted back in 97 or 98. It is still listed on the puppy mill boards even though Oprah and 20/20 have done some shows on puppy mills and dog abuse. My guess They just ignore the puppy mill story requests now. Oprah stopped doing those investigative type stories and is retiring this year any way. .....

Re: Puppy mill letters to Oprah
I did some research because the names in this letter are familiar to me. Even if they did write letters to Oprah, every anti puppy mill site suggest doing so. Oprah must get thousands of letters on puppy mills. Thanks Skeptic for bringing that to my attention. If Oprah hasn't done a show by now, she is not going to. I'll just keep up telling people to get their pets at a shelter. So far I have a pretty good success rate.

You know Ellen Degenerous (sp?) is a huge animal advocate and suports rescue and adoptions, she may possibly be a better choice at this point than Oprah, especially since Ellen has a new talk show that's doing very well. Just a thought anyway.

OK, here is the response I got. So they really are collecting letters. What the heck, I'll write one.
An excellent idea... We will approach the Ellen Degeneres show as well...
Thank you, and we're always open to suggestions, Herb and Chris Baker
