By all the standards we have, Mack is unadoptible and should be put down. That is until you meet Mack. There is something about Mack that goes beyound his obvious deformaties and oddities.
By all rights we should have gone straight to the vet's with him the night we picked him up. He was hit by a car and was having trouble with his hind legs. In fact that was our original destination after picking him up, but then we changed our minds and took him to the shelter instead.
There is a certain spirit and charisma he exudes which effects all around him. In spite of this our minds kept telling us that he cannot be adopted. Who would want a deformed dog that may need expensive surgery one day, no matter how cute he is or how charismatic. My heart was breaking for this find fellow.
Then it dawned on me. Mack is perfect for one type of job, that of therapy dog. Particularly for children who have deformities or injuries of their own. Most therapy dogs can cheer up sick children, but I Know of none that can inspire a child like Mack could. Here is a dog who has deformities and problems also, but one that refuses to let it get him down. Mack does not have any doubts of his abilities or doggishness. Mack is the perfect role model and uplifting spirit such children need. Please send this information to any one you know who handles, trains ar obtains therapy dogs. Mack and all the children he can help are depending on us!

Re: VERY IMPORTANT -- What to do with MACK!!!
If he's fairly young and depending on which vet you're working with, he stands an excellent chance at surgical correction of those legs. Probably would have to do one at a time, and the costs would be alittle on the high side, but for a dog who could enter a therapy 'career', he deserves that chance. Try talking to vets in your area who might reduce the costs, but most important is finding out the severity of this deformity. The longer it waits, the harder it will be for Mack to get around, this condition could fast debilitate him.

Hmmm... Mack is a darling allright! Has anyone besides me noticed he seems to already be magically tranferred from kennel to someplace with nice kitchen floors and flowered linens on beds?? Please keep us posted, okay?
