need help with new kitten

Post by glm777 »

We brought home our new 2 month old kitten yesterday from our local shelter. She was spayed on Tuesday. All looks weel with her sutures. However, since we brought her home, she has not eaten, had any water or urinated. She has been hiding under the couch since we beought her home! She will not come out on her own no matter what we try. She does allow us to hold her (when we can reach her!) but as soon as she is put down - back under the couch. We have placed her in her litter box a few times but she doesn't do anything - just jumps right out and back under the couch. I'm worried!! Can anyone give me any tips as to how to help her adjust? Thanks so much! :(

Give her time to adjust, and keep the environment quiet for her. She will come out when she's ready, but in the meantime, continue talking to her in a soothing voice, offer her treats, place her food close by so that she's tempted to come out and eat. Ideally, she should be eating/drinking/using the litterbox sometime today.....young kittens shouldn't go without food and water longer than 24 hours or they will develop dehydration....so do whatever you can to offer her canned food, treats, etc to get her enticed.
