It meant so much to me to hear your words of comfort and advice! What happened to Angel still doesn't make any sense to me, but being able to share it with the best group of people on-line is a great help! My hubby has said we need to print them off and send them to his mother, and I agree. I'm going to do some internet research today to find whatever I can to help her with her city council meeting. I will confess to all of you that I had kind of an uncharitable thought yesterday, after talking to my MIL. I was cuddling with Mr. Blue, and thought "Thank God we got you out of that place!" He's been getting a whole ton of loving over the last couple of days (well, I guess he always gets a bunch, but...) I got one of those solicitation letters from the ASPCA yesterday, and I'm thinking I'd like to make a donation to them in Angel's name. I'm not sure if they let people do that, but I think I'll try.
Anyway, thanks again! This is a great bunch of people on a great board!
Thanks to all of you for yesterday about my MIL's dog...msg

Mary, unfortunately, cases such as Angel's happen every day in this world. Someone's beloved pet, even those who are just as special who are roaming free are no less deserving of protection. Each of us has the capability to change things if we only take that step forward. Ultimately, that is how laws get changed to benefit our pets and strays, and when we do something about it, no matter how small a contribution we make, it makes all the difference in the world, particularly to those animals who may share the same fate.
Karen's post was informative in ways you can contact the media, contact local and municipal authorities to ensure the person responsible does not get away with this and to ensure others will not follow their lead. If these people go un-noticed, un-approached and un-punished, then we have not accomplished anything.
There are various organizations you can contribute a memorial, veterinary universities, local shelters, humane societies, special pet health organizations, even Angel's veterinary clinic, just to name a few. I'm sure the ASPCA allows memorial contributions, as does the HSUS and similar organizations.
I hope that your family can find comfort in knowing thoughts and prayers are with them, we share in their tragic loss...(((HUGS)))

Mary - I realized after I posted yesterday that I was so mad that someone would actually do that to animals, that all I could think about were ways your MIL could find a way to keep this from continuing, and possibly cause some trouble for the perpetrator - I forgot to say how sorry I was that this happened. I can't imagine someone being that callous. Please give her my deepest sympathy.

Thanks Traci & k9Karen...I thought your advice was...
...excellent, and I understand about the anger. I was furious, and wanted some way to make this stop. You gave some great suggestions that I wasn't clear-headed enough to think of. Someone yesterday said they hoped some good can come from this, and I hope so, too! This woman has to be stopped from doing this, and maybe my mother-in-law's efforts can lead to some better treatment for strays in her town. I want to help her however we can; after all, we know first-hand how bad things can be for strays there (says Mary, going over to hug Mr. Blue
