Has he been checked by your vet? All newly adopted cats and kittens should receive a new health exam by your vet....dewormed, vaccinated accordingly, etc.

My oldest cat (Patches) does this because of stress. She's 15 and hates change. When we have to change her environment (due to moving or a new member of the cat family) she usually pulls out her hair for approx. a month, ..we try to isolate her a bit, and spend alot of "special" time with her to allow her to adjust. Then she just gets over it finally and gets back to her old self. ...But that's just our experience.

the animal shelter neutered him vaccinated him and got the health check so that he was ok to rehome!
would this just be because he was in the shelter so long and began to think of it as home??
he had to get his chest shaved as it was matted!!
but this plucking looks quite it isnt red or anything he grunts when he does it
