cat that poops

[ Upset cat owner, I have a male cat that decided to not use his litter box, only when he poops. I have taken him to the vet. and we have changed his food, added sweet potatoes, changed to soft food..... nothing changed. About a year ago we changed his food and buy food that is high in ash, because he has had a problem with uti, that seems to be taken care, but the pooping in out of control. The vet. gave us medicine that has to be made by a pharmacy and we have to give that to the cat everyday, this caused the cat to vomit and poop. We stopped that and the vomit stopped but now the pooping this the problem. The vet. has told us that the only thing she can do is surgery..... I was looking for someone that has had this problem and can help

did your vet say what the surgery was for or what the procedure was...i think this might be more of a psychological problem for which i know of n0 surgery./..i think it might be good to cage him with a litter box and see if he will change his ways...ask what the surgery is please..

I am not an expert but...I would try to keep him in a small area...after he poops put the poop back in the litter box...maybe you can have a few litter boxes with different brands of litter plus one filled with sand (maybe one will be appealing)...maybe, cat is "revolting" over too many changes to food, meds, litter, etc. etc...i would go to another vet or go to a pet store or to an animal shelter and pick people's brains for a solution.
