Sleep deprived and at witts end with cat!!

Post by Destea »

First time posting, mostly because I'm searching for help.

My cat, Bandit (about a year and a half old) is absolutely driving me crazy. He meows CONSTANTLY. He has to announce every single thing he's doing (Mom, I just went potty, mom - I'm jumping now, mom -I'm eating, mom - I'm moving my little toe, you get the picture...). Over the past few months his nightly bouts of constant meowing have grown, it's driving my boyfriend and I ABSOLUTELY BATTY!

He was meowing from midnight until 3am before I finally stormed out and put him in the garage (I'm in California so it's not cold in there right now) until I woke up at 6am for work. I was absolutely livid. I've probably put him in the garage in the middle of the night about 5 times over the past 3 months because I absolutely cannot SLEEP! I don't know what to do to keep him quiet. He'll meow if the door is closed to my bedroom - if I open it he won't even come in, he'll just go around the living room meowing louder.

He's an indoor cat and I have a dog - the two play for hours on end once I get home, running back and forth and nibbling on eachother (my cat loves to tackle my dog - a 65lbs Lab) - either way he has activity and attention when I'm home. Lately I've been letting him outside into the back for an hour or two to run around when I get home from work... but nothing has changed.

I can't keep losing sleep, my work and health are going to the tubes. I've tried a few sprays with water when he starts meowing at night but half the time he just runs away meowing :|

HELP! This cat is driving me NUTS, I need sleep :(

young cats (yours is quite young) tend to be quite active. you can help teach them some of the house rules but its going to take time and patience on everyone's part.

below are some topics that may help you, some are simply indicators on what not to do.
your cat will never grasp the concept that mommy needs sleep, but with your patience and loving discipline she can learn which behavior results in consequences that remove priviledges. dont forget she will continue to be quite active for a while since she is young.
