Cat peeing on clothes/bed, etc HELP!!
Cat peeing on clothes/bed, etc HELP!!
My kitten is 6mos old - she is going in for spaying this Friday, but was peeing on my clothes in my clothes hampers, clothes on the floor. I took those away and is now peeing on the spare bed.... GROSS! I have two cats. I have two litter boxes. I keep the litter boxes clean. I don't know what to do... I don't want to make her an outdoor cat. Please advise! Thanks!
Re: Cat peeing on clothes/bed, etc HELP!!
there are alot of threads here about this. the behavior your noticing is most always caused by a medical condition and its usually a uti.
when was the last vet visit? sounds like you need the kitties urine tested.

I haven't taken her in awhile... she is going this Friday (for spaying). I scanned the threads, but didn't see anything that stood out - sorry for not surfing alittle more thoroughly.
What is UTI?
What is UTI?
Re: Cat peeing on clothes/bed, etc HELP!!
This is one of the most common complaints about cats...improper elimination, but is usually due to a physcal ailment, not mental, so you must rule out physical first. UTI is "urinary tract infection," and it is easily treated, but very dangerous for a cat. Also, urinary crystals are a problem as well. You really need to take your cat in tomorrow ASAP to be tested before you have anything else done to her. They can do a urinalysis to check for bacteria or crystals. If she starts to strain and is not producing urine at any time, you must get her to an ER vet immediately. Good luck. kk
Re: Cat peeing on clothes/bed, etc HELP!!
agree with kk and instead of scanning (that can take a while) click the "Search" button up top and enter in the word "pee" as a starting point for more hints, but the urinalysis is your first step.

Well she came back all clear of UTI and/or crystals?? Any other suggestions. I will check for urine (sp?) as Jason suggested, but any input is good. Thanks!
Re: Cat peeing on clothes/bed, etc HELP!!
Okay after reading a few posts... I was trying to rule out a few things or rule in... I guess is better. I got her from a place very far away, she's been on a plane, car, ferry and now lives with me. She first pee'd on my comforter in my room (but we figured that was from being scared of the vacuum cleaner). She started using the clothes hampers as her bathroom spot (urine and poop). I removed those as the temptation and she moved on to clothes left on the floor (removed that temptation), she then pee'd in the recycling paper bag, in plants and now has moved on the spare bed (which I've now covered in plastic). We lock her in the spareroom at night (with our other cat) and she lets us know she wants out at around 6:30am and was wondering if maybe it was the stress of being locked up, but she pee'd in my BF's buddies bag and she was locked out of the spareroom that night... and her litter had been cleaned because of his visit... so the litter was clean?? I'm so lost. I could phone the vet and see if her test included diabetes? Other than that. I have no idea. Thanks!
Re: Cat peeing on clothes/bed, etc HELP!!
every spot you mentioned sounds like a "comforting texture" as seen by your cat. given her history of moving and the stress of a new home, she might just be under alot of stress. although ruling out uti/crystals was excellent, it of course adds to the stress level to an extent.
im not 100% sure about any other health issue that would cause what your saying (solid and liquid waste not in litter box).
have you tried other litter? what litter are you (or have you) tried? does the box have high sides? is the box in a location that your cat frequents (easily to get to even in a hurry)? do you scoop daily (i know, not much there...but still)?
might want to try multiple boxes in opposite areas of the house to see if it's an issue of her having to go without having enough time to reach the box or at least she feels that way and just hops into the closest and most comforatable location (one of mine does that every once in a while, has to go right now and is in a room without a box...he panics and and squats). i think you already have two, but maybe one of them can be placed very near the "usual spots" for a little while (might be a bad location for you, but its just temporary) till she becomes more comforatable with the litter.
hopefully others can share some possible health reasons for this, but im not aware of them. i would pretty much expect your vet to of ruled those out as well, whatever they are.

Re: Cat peeing on clothes/bed, etc HELP!!
Well she moved on to the blanket on the couch and I haven't been locking her in the bedroom at night, thinking that might help.
I'm going to try changing her litter - does anyone have any suggestions.
I've heard yesterdays news is good and not smelly?

Changed the litter - has pee'd on the bed twice now once just before I switched brands and once after... I don't know what to do. She's started meowing all the time, because she wants out to chase the birds! It's especially bad at night when the birds are getting ready to sleep... or whatever they do right at the end of the night when they chirp alot! I'm thinking of getting her collar and letting her out... what does everyone think?
