Is This Normal?

Post by Kat »

I am new here, and have a few questions, and would appreciate any answers I can get.I have a 8 month kitten, that has a lump right behind his shoulder blades(which he has had for over a month now,and it increases, and decreases in size.)and swollen lymph nodes on the right side of his body,he was on an antibiotic 2 weeks ago,and the vet said he was treating him for a systemic infection..He gave him no more antibiotics, even tho the lump was still there, and the lymph nodes were still swollen(he was on this med for 10 days) and said it could take time for this to go away..I have noticed the past couple of days, that when he plays very much,he starts panting..I have never seen a cat pant unles there is something medically wrong, but when I called my vet about this,he says he is probably just getting overheated and to watch him...Does anyone have a clue as to why he would be doing this??? Any suggestions is greatly appreciated...

Thank You,
Kat

Has he been recently vaccinated? While it's possible that lymph nodes are swollen due to infection of some sort, your vet needs to rule out other causes. I would suggest seeing a new vet for a second opinion and possibly opting for a CBC, and possible cytology (aspirate taken from the lymph node)

If your kitten was vaccinated around a month ago, and the location of the vaccine was given near the shoulder blades, your vet needs to be taking this seriously and investigating more thoroughly. For this reason, I strongly suggest a second opinion right away.

Yes Traci,he was vaccinated just a few days before this lump came up,and the vet that vaccinated him says that is not the cause, that the lump is in the wrong spot, but I know where he gives the vaccinations, and I am sure this is quiet close..I have got a second opinion, and that vet says it is caused by the vaccinations, but it will go away,so do I need a third opinion?
The vet that gave me the second opinion,is actually the one that treated him for a systemic infection..And they have told me 2 totally different things, but neither seems to be doing anything about it..The second vet says there is no big worry at the moment over this, because the lump increases and decreases in size, but that later on it could be a problem...I do not know what to do?? I thank you for replying to my post, and hope that you let me know what you think I should do..

Thank You,
Kat
