Cats Living In The Crawl Space of New Home
Cats Living In The Crawl Space of New Home
My husband and I recently moved to our first home out in the country. Several nights we kept hearing strange noises under the house. My husband and I finally took our flashlights out and tried to find the culprit. What we found were two hungry female cats that are both pregnant. I am assuming that the people who lived here before we bought the home had left them, or they are lost kitties that found a warm spot under the house. I dont believe that they are feral. Neither one is afraid of humans. But what should we do? With the new arrival of kittens from both we are going to have a population explosion. Whats best for mom and babies? We have taken both soon to be moms in and got medical care for them. What should we expect?

oh boy! what surprise this must of been, thanks for taking them to see a vet...does either of them have specific medical needs at this time (worms, uti, etc)? what was done at the vet?

Re: Cats Living In The Crawl Space of New Home
They were tested for FIV and FELV. Had treatment for worms and the regular checkup that cats left to play in the wild have. They tested negative for both the FIV and FELV. I had no idea that cats could be infected with so many things. But we have a good country vet. He explained the tests to us and ran us through all the procedures. I just have no idea how to be a second mom to possibly 10 or 12 cats! But I guess all things happen for a reason. I have the number for spaying after the babies are born. And I want to find them good (not free ad) homes. Thanks for the link and the response!

good luck with finding homes for them, guess you might want to start spreading the word now .
we dont allow the soliciation of "free animals to homes" on this particular site (for all the bad reasons you can think of), but perhaps others can share some adoption sites for you to check into...im not aware of any personally (aside from google searches).

Thanks Jason! I wouldn't give the kittens to a free home anyway. I have heard its the worst thing to do. I will do a google search soon and see if I can find some good resources to help with the "google" of kittens. Thanks again. If anyone has some links, ideas or suggestions it would be most welcomed. I have never been in this situation before.

Hi Lady Rain
Caring for kittens and mamas is very warm experience. I have a lot experiences with this because I fostering for shelters. If you have any questions on concers or what expect with pregancies let me know and I could answer your questions. Also about finding good homes for the kittens maybe you could look contact no kill shelters to see if they can screen adoptions for you and also you try to contact stores like Petsmart or Petco to see if they have adoption centers. If you need any help with questions about kittens and mamas let me know i'm here for you.
