Cat no longer wants to use litter box
Cat no longer wants to use litter box
After about five years, my cat refuses to use his litter box. We dump the box at least once a day and change the litter frequently. This is the same litter that we have been using right along. He will however, use the box to urinate in but if he has other business to do after, he uses the floor. We even bought an extra litter box so he would have one for each, but he won't go in the new one. My cat has extreme anxiety, and there is no way we can even get him near a carrier, so a trip to the vet is near impossible. This has been going on for about a month now and is really becoming a problem. Any suggestions??? I don't know what to do.
Re: Cat no longer wants to use litter box
might be a discomfort problem when straining or trying to "hop" into the box with a full bowel. is your kitty overweight?
a vet visit is needed, difficult or not....you need to be sure there are no medical problems before trying behavioral measures...a month is a long time to have discomfort if that is the case.
if your case is truely extreme, there might be something you can administer to your cat that your vet can provide to subdue him for the trip...but i recommend the old fashion way if you can, scratches and nerves will heal (been there, done that).
