Stubborn pseudomona again...
Stubborn pseudomona again...
Poor Biscotti had her ears flushed again today. This time she was given something called Pavia Cream (as well as Baytril), which I have never even heard of....Does anyone know what this is???? Poor baby has had this for what seems like forever. I know it is really difficult to eliminate...my neighbor just told me that after her back surgery, she picked up a psuedomona infection and was on Cipro for a year!
Re: Stubborn pseudomona again...
i have put my old formula for TSA solution or commercialy knows as Tannisal...i used it for years because it did an excellent job on bacterial and or fungal ear infection...i keep posting it but seems that no one ever wantts to use it...i guess because it is cheap, agallon can be made for pennies, and when used BID it is allmost 100% effective...maybe some young enterprising vet out there might try it, although the formula is over 100 years old but still works....it does not supress bacteria or fungi, it just plain kills them.....
Tannisol
5% tannic acid
5% salsylic acid
5% boric acid
qs alcohol
these below are ones that have been submitted by other people and seem to work:
Ear treatment
1 part white vinegar
1 part rubbing alcohol
3 parts water
Purple solution
Blue Powder
INGREDIENTS:
16 Oz. Isopropyl Alcohol
4 Tablespoons Boric Acid Powder
16 Drops Gentian Violet Solution 1%
Mix together in alcohol bottle and shake well.
You will also need to shake solution every time you use it to disperse the Boric Acid Powder. Purchase the "Clairol" type plastic bottle to dispense solution to affected ears.
TREATMENT:
Evaluate condition of ears before treating and if very inflamed and sore:
do not attempt to pull hair or clean out ear at all. Just flush and then wait until inflammation has subsided, which will be about two days.
Warm the solution and shake the bottle each time before using.
Flood the ear with solution (gently squirt bottle).
Massage gently to the count of 60, wipe with a tissue.
On first treatment: flood the ear twice, wipe with a tissue, and leave alone without massage.
The dog will shake out the excess, which can be wiped with a tissue,
Note: the Gentian Violet does stain fabrics.
The SCHEDULE of treatment is as follows:
Treat 2x per day for the first week to two weeks, depending upon severity of ears.
After the 2nd or 3rd day you can clean out the ear with a Q-tip or cotton balls.
Caution: when using a Q-tip, only insert it as far into the ear canal as you can actually see. Use care to prevent the gunk from falling down into the ear canal.
Treat 1x per day for the next 1-2 weeks.
Treat 1x per month (or even less frequently, depending on the dog).

Re: Stubborn pseudomona again...
Nobody listens to me either Davet..ha.
Here's my vet's cure for Cinder's pseudomona (note to Marty, Cinder's a kitty, but the following can be used for canines. Also 'cure' was probably more likely really lucky, but situation resolved in little over a week)
First step: OtiFoam - apply to inner ear, massage gently, wipe dry (once daily for 3-5 days)
Second step: Alocetic Ear Rinse - apply to inner ear, massage gently, wipe dry (once daily for 3-5 days)
Third step: Tresaderm - apply 3 drops to ear canal, massage and wipe excess (twice daily for 7-10 days)
This was in addition to clavamox for 10 days.

OK, but I still don't have a clue what Pavia cream is. And what some of what you mentioned...I have no clue how or where to get, but I do listen! I am just feeling frustrated because I let Hubby take her...he doesn't ask questions....and now I am questioning some of what happened. In particular, she was brought in at 9and picked up at 4...should be time to not be groggy...but she was. Her ears were not as squeaky clean as last time. I just feel let down.
Re: Stubborn pseudomona again...
think might be time to switch and you go this time....
Re: Stubborn pseudomona again...
Marty, is your vet a holistic or homeopath? I would guess pavia is either an herbal concoction or some touted remedy, would sure like to know what your vet says about that when asked. Otherwise, there is a plant shrub pavia (which is a native red buckeye) and btw, is toxic.
As for the grogginess from the ear flush, I would assume that the procedure wasn't done at 9 but later on. She should have recovered from anesthesia in roughly 2-4 hours, depending on how long she was under.
As for where to get Davet's stuff, most at your local grocery or pharmacy. As for the ear meds I mentioned, all available at your vet.
