I posted a problem on Sunday Feb 22 2004 titled "Declaw gone bad?? Please help my kitty" ( for those who may want to be refreshed"
Anyway
Kitty has just taken last dose of Antibiodics, he has been taking since last Friday...He has the diarrhea, and I guess that is normal. And has been using the litterbox, untill this morning..he is peeing in the box but pooping else where around the house. I thought maybe it was because he tipped over his littler box, but he just went in the middle of my living room...When I went to clean it up I noticed a small amout of bright red blood in it. Kitty seems to be doing alot better then last week...He is eating normal and drinking normal...He has been eating small amounts of yougret (the vet told me it would help with diarrhea). He even played a little last night. His belly is a little big and hard..I am thinking that maybe it is form eating like a piggy and maybe from the diarreha. But now this blood has me worried...I am going to call the vet first thing in the morning, but I was hoping maybe I could get some advise tonight to maybe ease my mind so I am not worry about this all night.
Kitty Need more help..blood in stool
Re: Kitty Need more help..blood in stool
could be alot of things:
sorry to not set your mind at ease, it really could be something slight like irratation (hopefully its just a temporary reaction to the drugs since its a small amount) or quite serious....too difficult to say.
- intestinal irratation
- parasites
- cancer
- infection

Re: Kitty Need more help..blood in stool
When he was at the vet about 3 weeks ago she did check for worms...I took in a stool sample..or what I think may have been one from each of my 2 cats...I told her I was not sure what sample went with what cat but she told me that it did not matter because if one had worms then both had them. The stool came back negitive for worms.
Is it possible that there are different types of worms and that she may have only tested for one type???
I will call the vet first thingi n the morning
So it could be possible that it may be irritation from the antiboitic or dirahhea?

to be sure, you need to have the vet do a fecal test from a sample that they extract directly.....you dont want to mess around at this point with "what if's". the vet may do other tests (blood work) to rule out various things (trying to be brief here).
yes, its possible that irratation (from antibiotic) is the reason...but so is <--insert 101 reasons-->, so be the first call tomorrow morning and be very descriptive about what you see and mention the history if they need refreshing.
keep us updated after your (whats its name?) gets seen.

Re: Kitty Need more help..blood in stool
Thank you for your fast reply's.
I will call the vet tommarow before the my first cup of coffee!!
I understand that is could be a number of thing but I think I will be able to sleep better knowing that it COULD be something as minor as irritation or worms.
I always think the worst first and ofcourse I am prepairing myself for the worst (like haveing to get him put to sleep...I would break my kids hearts)\
Anyway I will keep you notified as to what the vet finds out about SOX.
Thank you again
Jennifer
