Doglady,
Makes a lot of sense, I always have Bailey groomed in December but I skipped this year. She usually is trimmed short in that "area", with the heavy snow falls we had here and the high snow banks...that may the reason why she got re-infected, also she marks like a male....guess who's getting a hair cut tonight! Cheap, effective solution...though I am calling my vet for more antibiotics (big sigh, this will be our 4th visit for this little problem, on the bright side: I'm getting real good at collecting urine samples in snowbanks in -20 degree weather!).
Thank you!
Recurrent vaginitis in golden retriever
Re: Recurrent vaginitis in golden retriever
Hi Bailey's Mom,
You're welcome! I have had several clients with Goldens, and other breeds with "feathers," that had constant UTI's. One of them had a Golden girl, and a GSD/Collie (3/4 collie) girl. I had them in my care frequently, and it seemed every time I did, they both had UTI's and were peeing in the house UGH!
They always took both girls to the groomers regularly, so I suggested that they have the groomer trim the fur to a short length in those areas. Also, the GSD/Collie girl was elderly, and had some arthritis, and because of this she was squatting a lot lower than she had when younger..something I've seen before, and even with my own, although they had short coats.
It would be a good idea to keep those feathers trimmed way back year round, as the feathers will lay in a pee puddle on a lawn or wherever, when she squats to pee. It will also make it much easier to keep that area clean.
Hopefully, this will help with this problem.
