pregnancy, miscarriage, sick???

Post by christy »

My 2 yr. old cat has never had kittens. She looks very pregnant and has swollen nipples too. I noticed slight bleeding two days ago and loss of appetite. She still bleeds very slightly and has found a spot to lay. Could she be in labor or miscarrying or just sick???

first ,it should be obvious to you that she is pregnant and second, why havent you consulted a vet???? If she is pregnant she could be in trouble and if you wait to get her help you can lose the cat and kittens..please take her to the vet :(

Im sorry, but if she is bleeding for two days and hasnt gone into labor,if she is pregnant, then she could be in trouble,I do understand about not having the money,do you have a regular vet that would let you pay them later??

Christy, I don't think justlilomee, meant to offend I know she meant to help and it is very good advice. I also know that vet costs are hard to fit in a tight budget, been there! Traci sent me a web site that helped me alot with Dolly, but dumb me I don't know how to put it here for you. But if you can check back around 2/15/04 where I had question on spaying and follow those posts you will find it. One of the symtoms of near delivery is less eating. This time Dolly didn't spot blood two or three days prior, but her first litter she did, and she did have problems. If its possible for you to see a vet please do but if not some will give you alittle info over the phone, and if you can find this page it will help. If someone else could add this in for her it would be appreciated. Wish I knew how but I don't. Please keep us informed, Wanda

no,I didnt mean to sound harsh, but if she is in labor and having trouble, then she needs vet assisitance. My mother had a very young stray cat that tried to deliver and couldnt and if we hadnt gotten her to the vet ASAP we would have lost her...we did lose the kittens, they had to do an emergency c section, but the mother cat has been my mom's housecat for 2 years now...I have a lot of money troubles, but if one of mine need attention,I either borrow the money till payday or they let me charge it,there are ways to get the cat help

I dont know if this link will work or not,but here it is for the delivery tips

yes, you are absolutely right! I took a chance with Dolly one time because of not having the money and will never do that again. That was the link I wanted thanks! If you wouldn't mind send me an email and tell me how to do that. Wanda

i agree with the direction of the latest posts here....anytime you notice blood and especially when other signs/symptoms are present while bleeding is the most important time to have a vet check it out and save the net questions for later.

we are trying to be the most effective as it relates to the health of your cat. it may just be pregnancy, im not sure since i have never expereinced that with cats myself...but it sure sounds like it.

costs can be paid over time at most clinics, ask about this when calling in the appointment and be sure to clearly state the symptoms when making the appointment.

let us know how your vet visit goes.

Christy, please understand none of us here can "diagnose" the problem on a message board. The others are correct, it is in your kitty's best interests to see your vet.....there are several things you can do, first of all calling vets in your area for payment arrangements, borrowing a credit card or other funds from friends or a family member, leaving a post-dated check, etc.

While there may be a slight bloody discharge directly prior to delivery, that doesn't mean that two days of spotting blood is normal. We don't even know for sure IF she is pregnant, but if she is, and due to her age and her first experience with delivery, you don't want to take chances. Read the pregnancy & delivery page posted above for signs of labor, and if your kitty is the least bit stressed or that any of the signs mentioned on that page are evident, you need to get your kitty to a vet.

Normally, expectant queens are not interested in food up to 24 hours prior to delivery. You said she lost her appetite two days ago, so this would not be considered normal. She could already be developing problems or infection. Since we don't know anything beyond what you have posted, you can't assume all is going well, only your vet can examine her and be available for potential complications. Always best to play it safe by seeing the vet.

I thank you all for your concern and advice. At this time a vet is not an option for me. I'm a 20 yr old college student and no matter how much it cost i couldn't do it. Of course i wish i could take her to a vet and yes that was my first response but it's just not an option. I looked all around the internet for a site that I may be able to find someone who has seen this before and thought this might be one, but i guess not. Thanks anyways for the sites.
