kitten making strange sounds

I have a kitten that is 10 weeks old,she has had her first set of shots and is due her second set Saturday,but ?I was hoing to get some advice before them from you guys...she started out being very shy,she got over that quite a bit,but now she is acting shy and hiding again after my sister visited,I guess she wasnt ready to meet anyone new..she eats well,plays some with one my sweetest cats...but here is what I am worried about.About a week ago,I noticed when I would rub her ,she would make a little noise that sounds almost like a small whimper or moan...now she is doing it even when she is just sitting around,it doesnt sound like wheezing,it is hard to describe..my question is have any of you ever had a kitten do this?? Could it be some form of purring??? I have had cats all of my life and have never had one do this before so it has me concerned

hard to describe and hard to hear from where you are..it could be practice purring that some kittens do but if you can record it some how take the recording to your vet when shots are given to let him/her hear it or find a situation like scratching behind the ear that might stimulate it and do that in the office...sounds are hard to hear on cathelp-online

I know it is hard to desribe to someone that isnt here to hear it LOL I was just wondering if anyone else had ever had a kitten/cat make strange noises..she only does it when she is resting,she stays under my bed a lot and I can hear her over the TV..it is like little whimpers,kind of like what a dog does..I think I am going to see if she can go in early to the vet to ease my mind..thanks

one of my cats does "something like that" as well. it's usually nothing, but on two occasions it has been either :

• letting me know that something they saw recently scared them (racoon outside)
• a uti causing discomfort

if it's something worth a vet visit or your time/assitance dealing with then you should just maintain your attentiveness for other signs as well.

thanks Jason..she is a very skiddish little kitten to begin with,she was a stray that came in my yard,we snatched her up,got her to vet. and fell in love with her!!!,but she is a very guarded little kitten.She had finally gotten used to us and then my sister visited for dinner last week and she totally digressed to hiding,acting afraid of us etc.She eats well and plays,but like you suggested,I am alert to any change in her health ..thanks for the advice
