Hi, I am new to this group and I need help. My cat, Lexy, has been treated several times for ear mites, but she still has trouble with ear discharge. She shakes her head and the "nasty stuff" in her ears goes all over our walls. We are still continuing to treat her but the situation does not seem to be getting any better and our walls look terrible. I am constantly scrubbing them . Can anyone offer any remedeies? She does not seem to be in any pain or discomfort. HELP!

Re: ear discharge...
What exactly are you treating the earmites with, and is this under direction of your vet? If so, and the treatment has not been successful after two weeks, it's time to evaluate the treatment and try something else.
The shaking can actually be an indication of infection and/or pain. If the ears are manipulated too much or inappropriate application of ear rinse/medication, this can exacerbate the condition.
Ask your vet to examine the exudate under slide exam again to ensure that mites are not just the problem, and to ensure that serious infection has not set in and would require a new treatment approach.
Is your cat allowed outdoors? If so, I'm afraid you might be constantly battling earmites, amoung other things. Acclimating her strictly indoors would solve that problem. Also, if you have other pets, or any of them are indoor/outdoor, earmites can be transmitted between pets indefinately if not treated appropriately.
