Poll - member input requested..

Post by Traci »

We are considering adding a new forum, a "lounge" that would permit topics of interest including but not limited to politics, religion, current events, opinions on other subjects UN-related to pet health entirely. (This forum would require a strict following of a disclaimer, and would be open to registered users only)

The poll counts will largely be our deciding factor. Comments welcome.

Davet, seeing you become more "obnosious" will be fun! Only problem is, I don't know this word (I suspect it's "obnoxious") :D

Traci, I think it sounds really good!

I voted yes on this idea [apparently I was the 2nd person to cast a vote] but must tell my dear friends from the get-go that I am leery about the term "fun" for such a forum. I tend to be quite serious about many of the things going on in our world today, and at the same time I don't like arguing or joking about basic philosophies: This is because I have the (unfortunately well-deserved) reputation in my circle for being too sharp-tongued, censorious, bitingly critical of opposing views - in said circle this is referred to as "Dottie Mama's Overkill"... and I have often gotten myself a lot of grief and regret with this trait.

When I was a child, a family game was to play out "Paul Bunyan" stories. Dad of course got to be Paul Bunyan, and a huge, useless old mare he had bought to keep her from being put down was "the Blue Ox." Mother was the cook, Sourdough Sam... I can't remember ATM which character my younger brother was. I could read (a little) before I went to school and began trying to write when I didn't even know all of the alphabet... So naturally, I was Johnny Inkslinger, the goof-off logger more interested in writing about work than in doing it...

The point is, sometimes a long-practiced skill can be used in a negative way.

Therefore, I hereby promise I will try really hard to keep things light (plus of course fair and tolerant)... to practice restraint and to be a good sport.

That's my comment.

Sincerely,

Dot B. aka "Johnny Inkslinger"*

E's, that in fact is being taken into account for consideration of the forum (amoung other reasons/comments etc).

Without going into too much detail and pending votes, if we had this forum, members who chose to enter would have to adhere to a disclaimer (which will be posted in that forum of course). In a nutshell, the forum would be used for topics and discussion we normally don't "allow" in our pet forums. Of course it would be strictly moderated and should not be implied it would be an "anything goes" forum, but rather an environment containing subject matter outside of pet health.

Of course, we will need to closely monitor Davet, this will be a full-time job, we may need to take applications

Sounds like a great idea to me. Just hope no one gets out of hand with opinions or others take too much offense to views differing from theirs on certain topics. Just what kind of disclaimer do you have in mind? I'm looking forward to it!
Kitty kisses,
Debbie

I voted undecided but really am not against it, just think it will be very hard to moderate. As others have said if everyone respects each others opinions it could be very enjoyable. I know we all have our strong points of view on different subjects, and some (not Davet) could really get obnoxious, and might be hard to control. I am sure though if can't obey rules can be kicked out. So, my vote undecided leaning toward yes. Wanda

I won't vote since I am a lurker more than a poster, but I have to say if any online group of people can handle a forum like that, it's this one! It would be fun and educational to read, I'm sure. :)
