Winnie came home today after bladderstone surgery. Even though she's giving you those Basset eyes, she is doing well, and when I got home from work, her tail was helicoptering!
He said the surgery went very well.
Her blood panel was great, which surprised him a bit. She has a little incontinence, which is the reason I had him check her out to start with. Hopefully that will clear up as she recovers. If not, well, she is 10 years old...we will deal with it. The thing bugging me now, and we seem to have lost the nutrition board and I had a question on it, but that is OK, I'll post it again. He wants to keep her on Hill's Salmon and Rice. After her first stone, he had her on C/D (?) and she had an allergic reaction to it. He called the company and they suggested the Salmon and Rice as a substitute, and they still stand by it. Well, I don't want Winnie to go through this again, and I know there are other brands of prescription food out there. Don't Vet's get a kickback from Hill's? He is a wonderful Vet, and I don't want to rile him, but this is expensive, and Winnie will not be getting younger!

Unfortunately, I don't know a thing about prescription diets, except that there's several different brands out there. I understand the sad hound dog eye thing - why else would I have a slightly pudgy boy? 
Marty, there are several prescription diets available, you don't have to stick with just one. Here is a link to Veterinary Diets, this page is for cats, but the same applies, your options are available there.
No, vets do not get a kickback. As a matter of fact, getting cost isn't that much at all.
As for incontinence, it may be a life-time condition, not necessarily related to history of stones or the present surgery either. While it may improve after yesterday's surgery, be prepared that it may not. In any event, your vet can tell you about the various medications available to help if you're not approaching that already.

go by the old saying: he who worries worries he who;;;now figure that one out..but dog bounce back real well after surgery like this...
judt noticed your comment about getting kick backs:::msg
i never got, nor knew of any vets that got a kick back, maybe a couple freebe cans but nothing big...even when they sponsored vet symposiums we had to pay...i never Rx much because my place was too small but had them get it from another vet (no kickback) we all just felt it was a well researchered and applicable food for certain conditions...

Fine pic! I am so glad she is OK. Agree re good vets... love mine too... but the old Science Diet IS there in the lobby, and they will sell it if they can, but not make an issue of it. My Winnie had to be on W/D (or something like that) a few years ago... $30 a case as I recall, but it DID do what it was supposed to do, and that's what counts. I may be able to find some links in Bookmarks to send tomorrow. Thanks again for the sweet pic and the update.
