One of my cats chatters he teeth every time he yawns. He recently had his teeth cleaned by an anesthetic-free service and, besides scraping off a lot of tartar, they extracted 1 tooth. Otherwise, they didn't indicate that anything was wrong and I didn't think to tell them about the chattering.
In the meantime, I switched to a different teeth cleaning service (waaaay better than the first) for my other cats and asked the owner her thoughts about the chattering. She said that it could be "a stretching of the muscles". Any ideas?

i dont know, but one of my cats will do that when a squirrel comes wandering too close to a window...hopefully someone else here can shed some light for you.

First, the chattering you describe and the "owner's" comments that this was probably muscles stretching is...to put it lightly, hogwash.
This is just ONE of many problems with these new-fad anesthesia-free dental facilities.....you cannot and should not ever gaurantee your kitty is getting optimal, professional dental services. Most obviously, dental cleaning can and often is a painful event for most pets, I shudder to think of it being applied without anesthesia. Another problem is un-licensed, un-trained, non-professionals in this field assuming they can perform veterinary dentistry without the proper license, equipment, monitoring, prophylactic care, extended care, etc. There have been recent reports and legal suits against such facilities for applying procedures under the guise of a professional pet dental facility (one death has thus been reported, and an employee fired and sued, the facility is under investigation)
Get your kitty to your primary vet please, he is the ONLY one who can appropriately evaluate your cats, their oral health and offer optimal health care dental services. He is also the only one who will followup with the care should it require antibiotics, further dental procedures, etc.
