Mating Behavior Fixed Cat

Post by Guest »

My female kitten is in heat, and my male neutered cat is trying to mate with her. My female cat will be spayed as soon as she is 6 months old. I trust my vet and I know that she can be spayed earlier, but, my vet won't do it I don't feel comfortable taking her to another vet that doesn't know her history. My question is, does this mean that the neuter didn't work? Is this normal behavior? Right now I'm keeping them seperate, just in case, but, feel wrong punishing them for doing nothing wrong.

Ps: I know that the older cat is fixed, since my vet did it.

Ask your vet to read the current literature on early-age spay/neuter, and also explain to him what you are dealing with at home, perhaps he will make an exception to spay your kitten early.

As long as your kitten experiences heat cycles, your male will still be attracted to her, neutered or not....

I just wanted to let you know that I talked to my vet and she agreed to do the spay. She will go in Monday have the spay on Tuesday and come home on Wednesday :D I expressed my concerns about the recovery to the vet tech that I spoke to. She said that since she will not come home until 30 hours after the surgery she will be back to her normal self when she returns home. She also said that the anestiesia was the dangerous part of the operation, and that recovery was minimal. When my male cat was fixed I remember that this was true he didn't even act like the stiches bothered him. However my female cat gets into everything and is extremly active. Should I get one of those cone things? I plan on leaving them seperate for a little while because I've read about the dangers of mating after a spay and that she will remain in heat for a period of time. I work the day after she gets back will she be ok alone? This kitten is my daughters world and I can't risk anything happening to her. I also spoke to them about getting some of the strays around here fixed, they will do it at a redused cost, but I will be responcable for recovery does any-one have any experience with this? I don't know how I could get a stray to stay confined in a room for them to recover. This is important to me because my female kitten was found abandoned by one of the strays.
