A little help please.

I'm looking for some advice on how to clip my kitty's claws. They are just getting a bit to sharp. I bought really good clippers and the vet has shown me how to do it. I'm just looking for a bit more advice before I do it. He's a very sweet docile kitten who is very trusting. He adopted me within 2 hours of meeting him. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks
