fixed cat sprays
fixed cat sprays
My male cat Chester is 5 years old and has been fixed since he was 6 months old. My problem is that he sprays. He has done it for the last two years and I have tried everything. I've bought spray that you spray where they normally do and they won't want to anymore but it didn't work.I've tried cleaning my litter box twice a day and it didn't work,I've tried putting food where he'd spray but he'd just find somewhere else to do it.I have a baby and have to make sure the babies room door, my bedroom door(or he'll spray our bed) and bathroom door(he'll spray the washing machine) are shut at all times, and I'm always looking for cat pee. Our house stinks like it and we have nice furniture I don't want destroyed. I'm sick and tired of cat pee,but love my cat and don't want want to get rid of him. Does anyone else have a similar problem or maybe suggestions on how to get him to stop?? Also, Is there a home remedy for worms? My other cat Dexter has had it twice in the last few months (from eating mice in the coulees) and I was wondering if instead of taking him to the vet every time, of someone knows a secret home remedy?
Re: fixed cat sprays
First, there is no home remedy for worms, nothing "natural" can eradicate them. Stick with your vet's direction...Droncit for tapeworms, StrongidT for roundworms.
As for the spraying issue, sounds like a stressful environment....first and foremost would be a vet check to ensure that underlying health conditions are not a concern. If your vet pronounces him completely healthy, then try to focus on the environment and reduce the stress levels, including yours. Your kitty can sense your stress and will react to it.
Try using enzymatic cleaners like Nature's Miracle or Simple Green, alittle more expensive than your average cleaners, but if used consistently, you should find they work. Also consider a larger litterbox or another new one placed in another area. If you haven't tried switching litter types, you might want to consider doing that this time. If you're using clumping litter, try clay, or vice versa.
Is he allowed outdoors like your other kitty? If not, and your other kitty comes in with strange scents on him, your kitty is going to react and become very stressful (and will mark as a territorial issue). Try to acclimate your outdoor kitty to indoors only.
