He SPRAYED me!!!

Post by 4catsathome »

Okay, I'm a little confused now. My 7 year old NEUTERED cat Louie sprayed me last night. I have smelled that same smell before and didn't know what it was. I have smelled it on my little boy a couple of times after he has been playing (okay, harassing) this same cat. I didn't think a cat that had been "fixed" could do that anymore. I got him at the Humane Society and took him to my vet for the operation so I know it was done.

Last night I was on the couch and Louie was on one side of me and one of my other cats, Romeo was on the other side. I stopped petting Louie and began petting Romeo. Louie raised his tail and a stream of "whatever" sprayed across my skirt!!! It was disgusting! I had to shower. I guess I know who I belong to now!!!

Is it possible that the neuter didn't take or am I just wrong to assume that neutered cats don't spray and I'm just fortunate that my other 3 cats don't think they own me????

Thanks for any info...

Sorry, haven't had a chance to check back....

Louie was neutered about 6 1/2 years ago. He doesn't have any of the "cat on the prowl in heat" symptoms that I would think he would portray if the neuter didn't take. Or are females the only ones that have those kinds of behaviors? Maybe I should take him to the vet and have him checked.....

However, he is my most mischevious cat and whenever anything happens at home....Louie gets blamed. He also seems to always be the instigator when any of the cats fight. He's the one that breaks into the cabinet where the cat food is kept. He's the one that will urinate on the carpet instead of in the box. Looking back on several factors......maybe the neuter didn't take....hhhmmm. Oh well - I love him regardless.

it is sallmost impossible for the surgey of castration to not be done right if that is what you are thinking...you got two similar proceedures, no more, no less...but it is possible for other hormone glands to take over the "*beep* drive function"..if this is a continual problem it might be helpfull to have some female hormones injected or taken by mouth to see the effect...kinda sounds like the pituitary is doing double duty.
