cat urinating?

Post by monacks »

My question is two fold:

During the last week or so, I've seen my 7 year old cat squatting in various places in the house. When I walk up to him and nudge him, he sits down. I don't see anything where he was. What is he doing?

Also, today in my daughters room, I found a yellowish sticky substance on her carpet in spots on both sides of the room and on some of her barbies. It is really bitter/disgusting smelling when you get up close to it. But he room doesn't stink. Is this cat urine? Or is he spraying? I am hoping that it wasn't him, but he's never done it before so I'm wondering what their urine looks/smells like when they do it in the house.

Any advice would be helpful.

The best thing you can do is get him checked by your vet immediately. It could be a urinary tract infection or constipation even...has he been drinking more lately, have you noticed him not actually using the litterbox? If this is a urinary tract infection, you also don't want to risk a potential obstruction, which can be fatal in cats.

As for the urine, yes, it's possible what you found in the room is urine. When it sits for an extended period of time, it will become sticky, darker in color, and may even be slightly grainy (like sand)....it could smell either bitter or unusually sweet.

On the other hand, ask your daughter if she spilled anything in her room lately... like soda, drinks, etc. But, ideally, given the squatting behavior, it's best to get kitty seen by your vet ASAP.
