My husband, 2-year-old cat and I are moving to a new apartment (same building, one floor up) in about 10 days. They're fumigating it today before we move in as a preventative measure. My vet's advice was to wait at least 3-4 days and to wash all surfaces down with hot, soapy (dishwashing soap) water before moving in -- so we're doing all that and then some.
The problem is, I can now smell the chemicals from upstairs in our current apartment (I work from home). So now I'm worried -- does this pose any danger to our kitty? What should we watch for in her as warning signs that all is not well? I've opened some windows but it's also the dead of winter so we can't do that all night. (I should add that we're in Moscow so the chemicals in use may be stronger/older than what's used in the States these days). Our cat is very healthy and playful but is also very small -- 7 pounds.
A little worried...would appreciate any advice.
thanks,
C.

Re: exterminators and cats
i would keep your current apartment well ventilated. might want to read up on Vital Signs, Signs & Symptoms and Home Hazards which are available from this site. they should give you some things to watch out for in knowing when it's time to take your cat to a vet.
Re: exterminators and cats
thanks jason -- smell cleared after a few hours, and kitty is fine.
