Help! Cat peeing out of litterbox!

Post by Andrea »

I have never posted here before but hope someone can help me out.

We have two male siamese cats, one is a snowshoe. They are not neutered, and they are almost 9 months old. They are very good about using the litter box...

Until the day before yesterday! I was in the kitchen cooking and Dante (the showshoe) went to the corner of the kitchen looking right at me (we were making eye contact) and peed on the floor!!! At first I didn't know what he was doing since he has never done that, but he peed a whole bunch right on the floor.

Just about an hour ago I was sitting at the computer desk in the office right here and Dante came up about 12 inches from the desk and squatted to pee. I was watching him and got up and said no and go away. The litter box is clean, and it is right here in the office. Then I got up to go check on him and right when I found him in the master bedroom he looked up at me and went over some clothes (laundry) on the floor and squatted to pee on them. I said no and he ran away.

I am so frustrated! I can't chase him around all day playing this game. My husband is at work and I just called him so frustrated! We decided to put Dante in the big pet taxi until my husband comes home (he will come right home soon).

He has been in the pet taxi for about 20 minutes and seems content. Our other cat, Max is playing with him through the bars. He is not meowing or anything.

Any ideas or suggestions?!?!? Maybe he has a urinary tract infection or something? But he seems deliberate in doing this when I am looking right at him?

Andrea,

It's important for you to get your kitty to the vet as soon as possible to rule out a UTI. I'm not sure this is spraying behavior which is more prevalent in unneutered kitties. Anyway, UTI can be easily treated, however, left untreated can turn into a serious problem. He is definitely trying to tell you something but it's so important to rule out medical reasons first before thinking it's behavioral

There are alot of posts on this board about this subject--it's a fairly common problem.

Please let us know how all goes with the vet.

Bests,
Lisa

Andrea,

Definitely follow your instincts and do as Lisa said. Get your cat to the vet ASAP. This is a classic symptom of UTI. And please get your babies neutered as soon as possible.

Good luck, and let us know how things go.
