Cat continues to pull out fur, is something wrong?
Cat continues to pull out fur, is something wrong?
I have an adult tiger cat named Brittany. Four the past several weeks (maybe three weeks?) Brittany has been pulling fur out of one particular spot. A small portion of the spot is now bald, and just today I noticed her picking at another spot. Nothing appears to be wrong with the skin in either place and it is not sensitive to the touch. She is eating and sleeping fine, and seems to have her normal amount of energy. Is anything wrong? What should I do?

It could be a newly developing food allergy, or atopic problem (mites, flea allergy, etc), and if she happens to be older than 5 or 6, get her to your vet to check her thyroid function. Best to have your vet give her a thorough exam anyway and opt for bloodwork if he suggests.

My cat D'Artagnan does this out of stress. The only way to get him to stop was to put him on drugs for a bit. They mellowed him out and he stopped. Has there been any new stress in your home? It could be ANYTHING out of the oridnary. Did you move furniture? change the litter box position? introduce someone new into the home? ANYTHING will set D'Artagnan off.
