itchy bottom

Post by Yzma »

mythie has this habit of dragging her bum along the floor. she has been checked for parasites and worms on numerous occasions. and each time they haven't found anything. she's been dewormed and a stool sampled was done last week too.

but she keeps doing it...

every now and then when she's sitting on the floor she'll move a couple of steps with her bum against the floor. and she has also started using the rug next to the kitty litter as her own personal piece of toilet paper when ever she goes for a big one... it started when she had that bad case of diahrrhea caused by the antibiotics... she was wiping her bum on the rug for a while, then when it cleared up she still kept doing it.

it could just be a habit now but i do wonder if it could be a symptom of something other than worms or parasites? and something that we haven't checked for...

since you are keeping in contact with your vet to have tests done, im leaning towards habit.

is the stool mostly dry at this point?

also (assuming its a habit and your around for "the big one") when she gets out of the box i would immediately pick her up for some rubs and try to get her distracted with this habit every once in a while in hopes the distraction will break it.

no they didn't empty out the anal glands. do they need to? the stool is totally normal... should i ask them to empty the anal gland out? i've heard that they can become impacted... could this be why she is rubbing her bum on the floor...? i think i'll call them and ask them what they think about the anal gland thingy...

actually, i've done just a bit of research on the net and here's a question... how would our vet know that it is infact an impacted anal gland? is there any way we can check ourselves?

i definetly will call dr.yeoh and ask him... and then knowing me i'll take her in anyway justtocheck. it's sounds very uncomfortable and if we can avoid the discomfort i think we should... if it is just a habit then i think we can live with her rubbing her bum over the rugs... :)
