yellowish coat

Post by JessK »

This is another question about my 9-month-old neutered male. He is mostly white, and this winter I've noticed his fur has a yellowish cast. I've seen a similar effect on polar bears in the zoo. Is this normal? Is it an indication of any problem?

His coat is obviously thicker now than it was when he was a tiny kitty in the summer, but in addition to the yellowness, it's less shiny than his summer coat. I feed him dry Science Diet kitten formula with occasional treats of canned Science Diet or Iams food.

Thanks for your advice!!

if the yell;ow is in spots, it could be from licking, ie the saliva will oxidze on the fur and become yellow...if it is all over the body then it is probably genetics...

I just replied to your other question. We DO have a lot in common!
My other (un-needy) cat is white, and I've also noticed a yellowish tint at times! (Mostly on his back). This is probably terrible to say, but I was worried is was from my smoking!
I don't think this a big problem though.
By the way, a P.S. to your other question. You might want to try to convince your boyfriend that a 2nd cat would be GOOD! Not much more work than one, and my 2 are inseparable. They entertain each other ALL THE TIME.
