Cat Grunt/Growl

Post by TunaBreath »

Ok, I have had many cats before as a kid but have never run into this before. I hadn't had cats in a little while so when we got our house, we got two kittens. They are almost a year and a half old now. One cat grunts or growls every now and then when we play or not. If I throw a ball she will let out this loud growl sound, and if we walk to another room and she is awake, she lets out a similar growl and runs in front of us. She lets out a grunt when she jumps down from furniture. I have never ever seen this before. She does not seem unhappy and it almost is like a growl of happiness or something so I am not particularly worried. It is funny and I wonder if others have encountered this in their kittys. Is it because we talked to them so much as kittens and she is talking back to us in her way? It is quite funny and interesting. :D

Thanks,
Frank

ya... you DO have tuna breath! Pee yew! :)

Zooey does the growl too... I think it's a growl of excitement... She's our most talkative cat, and growls are part of her repertoire...

On the other hand as a kitten she only had ONE meow. It was a very small high pitched perfectly annunciated Mi-Ow. And there was a short break between the Mi and the Ow...

And on the OTHER hand Bobbie didn't master her vocal cords for ages... All she could manage for the longest time as a sort of meh eh eh... almost like a sheep...

Most cats take a while to discover their vocal cords and make all sorts of funny sounds in the process... And two of our three cats do that little oof/mrrnh when they land.

That's funny. One of our cats is named Zoey. And she is the most talkative. She does that little growl as she runs in front of us and rubs against us or jumps up or down on things. She also has a loud growl that she makes whenever we throw balls for her to chase. She must be really happy then.

Thanks for the reply. :)

Wow... That is a in deed a co-incidence! Her full name is Zooey Zoo Nutz.
We named her before we found out that she is a little nutts anyway... And our Zooey has the worst case of collapsible lges ever...She's costantly falling over belly up and waggling her legs in the air... But yeah... She's quite growly and talks ALL the time. And these days she's getting quite opinionated too :)
