Amanda is out of surgery

Post by Amandasmom »

Amanda had TPLO surgery this morning at Tufts vet school. The vet just called and everything went very smoothly. In 6 short weeks she will be back to normal. We have been preparing the house for when she comes home on Friday. We built a ramp to take her outside so she doesn't have to do steps. I'm setting up the bedroom on the first floor for her and me, hubby will sleep upstairs with the other 2 dogs. :? I had to remove the 2 fish tanks from the bedroom because she is afraid of fish. I discussed with the vet the fact that she was 8 years old and a bernese mountain dog, their life expectancy is 7. He said she was in great healthy and her hips and elbows were good so he wasn't worried. So my baby girl will be good as new by summer. That seems sooooo far away right now.

Sounds like good news all the way around - except maybe for the sleeping arrangements. Amanda's good health and long life are the result of great care...here's hoping for a speedy recovery.

Tufts just called to say she is up and around but very nervous. I asked if she ate her food and they said no. I told them that if she didn't start to eat, I would come over and feed her. That's the first thing she does when she is scared is to stop eating. I don't want to visit her then leave. I think that's worse then not visiting. I'm rambling, you can see I'm a very worried mom.

You are a GREAT Mom...and I can understand your being worried. You will be glad when she is home with you, I bet...then she will progress faster yet. Glad she is doing well- she is so beautiful.

Glad to hear she is doing well!!! I was so nervous when Biscotti had disc surgery a few years back, but all went well, and was so worth it! (Sleeping arrangements can be worked around)

Oh good!!!

I was thinking about her today and it looks like everything will be just fine.
Ah, how fantastic it is to hear that she is in great health generally!
The fact that her hips and elbows are in good shape will definitely help a lot in her recovery.

Amanda, relaaaax..., sweet girl.

And Mom, one day at a time. :)

Best wishes from me and very gentle bumps from Mabel,
arki

Love a Bernese, love them all.

Great picture of Mabel. Just got back from visiting Amanda. They called to tell me she won't eat. I went over and fed her dinner. I took her favorite treats, she ate everything. That should hold her until I pick her up tomorrow. She looks good and is getting around pretty well. She even rolled over for some belly rubs. No one can believe that she is 8. Everyone at Tufts is really great. They are all giving her lots of attention.

If she isn't going to eat for the vet staff, hopefully she can come home soon, she'll do better at home, obviously

Hang in there AM !

I'm so glad to hear she's doing so well, Amanda's Mom! It's heartbreaking to go see them when you can't bring them home yet, isn't it? So she comes back tomorrow? I know you'll adapt to her needs. After all, that's the nature of a good dog "Mama," which you definitely are!
