Hello,
I am looking for experiences people have had with introducing older cats with kittens. In a week an 8 year old cat will be moved in with my new roommate. My kittens are going on 4 mths and have been all over the house (love the freedom). But now an 8 year old female cat will be also in the house. What would be the best way of introducing them? I was told the older cat is a very sweet and lovable cat. Please give advice! Thanks!

Re: Any Experiences with introducing New cats?
Well I've read through the forums several times. In most cases it seems like cats don't get along that easily. My situation is a little different. We're talking about kittens "ruling" the house and an older cat coming in, invading their so called space. Because they're so young they're harmless to an older cat. Anyways I'd still would like to hear any advice on this...

the tactics would still be similar, the older cat is the new kid on the block and should be the first to be in confinement in order to adjust to the surroundings like the noises, smells, routines, etc.
i think the introductions will be easier since the resident cats are younger, perhaps they are more interested in playtime than old grandma arriving to the house.
try the tactics out as opposed to just "letting them say hello" at first and let us know how well it goes. each case is different so the time frame will vary.

I agree....since the kittens are so young, the adjustment will probably be easier on them than the new kitty. For this reason, I would yet consider seperating them at first, just as you would any newcomer, let them be introduced slowly, the kittens will probably be more curious than ever.
Since your new kitty is 8 years of age, watch her carefully for any signs of stress which would be more applicable as opposed to the kitten's suffering stress. She will really appreciate your attention and bonding and helping her adjust to her new home. (if by chance you don't know her prior health history, be sure to get her checked by your vet before introducing her to your kittens)
