I am not sure if my cat has a UTI. At first i thought she was constipated. So I gave her a cat laxative. It has been two days and nothing has happened. Then when my husband was cleaning the cat box Sadie Our Calico continuously kept getting in and trying. We thought she was trying to have a bowl movement but as she kept doing this a little bit of urine came out. So now we think it's a UTI. Should I continue to give her the laxative and see if she gets relief or go to the vet immediately???
I don't want to waste a trip on the vet.
Could part of this be stress?? The house if full of empty boxes because we are moving in 5 days. This behavior started just a few days ago when we filled the hosue up wioth boxes for packing. Also in the same room the cat box is in we found a little bit of urine on the sink and cat prints. I am not sure which cat is doing this but I think it might be Sadie since she tries and very little comes out.
What do I do??
Feline UTI??
Re: Feline UTI??
Trust me..a visit to the vet is not a waste. Get your cat to the vet TODAY. Do not delay one more minute. If your cat has a UTI or crystals (and she may very well have one or the other), it is VERY serious and must be treated properly. Your cat is showing the classic symptoms. She is relying on you to take care of this. Sometimes stress can just make the problem show up. Do not ever assume it is behavioral until you have ruled out physical ailments. This is a serious matter, and could be potentially deadly, yet could be sooo easily remedied. Please let us know what you find out from the vet.

Re: Feline UTI??
I just want to reiterate that this is an emergency. Call your regular vet and see if they will see you today, or call an emergency vet right away. If your cat is not peeing at all, she could die. Please let us know what the vet says.

Re: Feline UTI??
KK is right, inability to produce urine is a veterinary emergency, this could be a UTI but it could also be leading to a life-threatening blockage....your vet is the only one who can properly examine her and perform a urinalysis to rule out potential crystals or inflammation that could be causing a blockage.
To the vet NOW please.

Re: Feline UTI??
The same thing happened to our cat a few years ago. We didn't waste any time in rushing him to the emergency vet and thankgoodness we did-he had a serious blockage and emergency surgery was needed. If we had waited another day he could very well have died. As others have said, please take your kitty to the vet. Good luck and I hope it's nothing serious...
