blooc in urine
HI am worred abou tmy dog Sweets. She is active playfull still but haven seen her drink water the last few days got her to drink some by putting sugar in water today. and today was the first time I noticed it but there is blood in her urine. am hoping it is just a uti but was wondering if it could be kidney stones . I do have a ? about giving her cranberry juice I have heard of some people giving their cats cranberry juice but wonder if a dog can be given cran berry juice. She is going ot a vet as soon as we can find one that is open on a holiday.
Re: blooc in urine
im sure you should be able to find a vet or er vet that will see you. since blood has been seen, you can easily assume it's progressed for a good amount of time....enough to warrant an immediate vet visit to be sure it does not progress further.
my experience is with felines, but the symptoms you explain sound very much like a blockage of some sort, crystal or stone and since drinking has backed off considerabily you need to get moving on this fast.
once you see a vet, please let us know how Sweets is doing and what is diagnosed/prescribed.

Re: blooc in urine
agree with Jason...when our dog had blood in her urine, it was due to UTI which she was prone to because she was paraplegic. The infections were typically caused by eColi. During onset and duration of the UTI, she drank more, not less, water. Drinking less water would make me suspect a blockage also.
We gave Roxy cranberry tabs but cranberry only goes so far at preventing UTI's - she still got them - I think the cranberry may have helped in lowering the intensity of the infection. I would follow your vet's advice because this could be stones and a controlled diet may be needed to combat crystals and resultant stones if present.

I agree with both jason and jdf - time for a vet visit ASAP. Cranberry may help prevent UTI in people and animals that are prone to this type of infection, but it is not a cure for an active, current infection, and will not be effective with a blockage or stones. Whether this is infection, or blockage, or something else, I would seek prompt vet care if it were my animal.
