Hi, I just found this message board so I'm not sure if this has been discussed before. My wife and I just got a kitten last Saturday, he's about 6 weeks old. When he goes and does his business in the litterbox he steps in his poop while he's covering it up. My wife is a health inspector and will not have a "poopy" cat walking around the house, so we have to go and wash his paw off in the sink which neither we or the cat enjoy. Is there some way I can teach his not to step in his poop? Or some type of kitty litter that will prevent it. This is the first pet I've ever had so I have no idea what to do?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long winded post
HELP me please!!! Litter Box Problem
Re: HELP me please!!! Litter Box Problem
My guess is that he will outgrow this. Six weeks old is still pretty young. I have a mother and baby cat. When the baby was little, she didn't cover up her poop, so the mommy went into the box after her and covered it up for her!! She was such a good mom!! Still is in fact. Your kitty is probably not completely coordinated yet. Also, because of kitty's age he's probably in a hurry to have fun so not as conscientious.
Your idea about the litter is good too--perhaps a different type would work better for kitty. Ask in the petstore if they have any suggestions.
I do think in time kitty will learn not to do this as he matures.
P.S. Some cats actually play with the poop so it could be worse!!
