puppy stomach probs
About a week ago my 6 week old pup, ozzy, was feeling weak, vomiting and had diarehha. I promptly took him to an emergency vet since i was concerned that he may have been poisoned. Well turned out that that was not the case. The vet had no explaination after exam and x-rays. She perscriped some special dog food, looked like rice and meat mixed together. She also gave me carafate, flagyl and centrine. I have been giving ozzy the medication faithfully, and after a day he was fine. Since then he has been back to his peppy and puppy self...until yesterday. I came home to find a lot of diarehha and vomit in the house. Poor guy. Anyway he is not weak and is eating fine. I have an appt with my regular vet on Monday...not sure if i should take his back to emergency care and lighten my pocket even more or what...sorry about the long msg. I am kinda feeling concerned since his condition is changing so much..any advice? Thanks.
i would take him back to the ER vet as soon as
because vomiting and diarrhaea in puppies is not like that of adult...pups can't loose too many electrlytes and fluids as can an adult...they can dehydrate very rapidly...
Yep, back to ER ASAP please....ask vet to do fecal for clostridium, campylobacter, other parasitic infections, etc., make sure a parvo test is done too. As Davet warns, excessive vomiting and dehydration can deplete electrolytes faster than you can spell them, so please get him in ASAP......
