Seeing Mr. Blue in the first snow of the season is a delight

Post by Mary Plummer »

Hello everyone,

We got about 2 inches of snow last night, and it's our first snow that has stuck here all season! I just got back from a short walk with him; well, it was short in distance but took a long time. It was like a whole new world for him! It was really delightful to watch him following tracks in the snow and digging to see what's underneath all that new white stuff! It really is great; I'm pretty convinced that sharing in his excitement helps me in so many ways. For the time we're out, and even when we get back, my heart just feels lighter and less worried about work woes, driving in the stuff, etc. I think our pets help keep us young. I remember the first winter he spent with us. We had a major blizzard on New Year's Eve that year (98-99), and I don't think he'd ever seen snow before. He jumped right into a huge pile from a snow plow, and ended up buried up to his neck. He gave me this pitiful look - "Mom, get me out of here!" - through my laughter, I said "You got yourself into it, you can get yourself out." Of course, I think I also now know how to identify rabbit tracks in the snow; they're the ones that really grab his interest.

On a completely unrelated note, I hear they've captured Saddam Hussein. I suspect CNN is going to be on a lot today!

Sounds like you guys have a lot of fun together. Honey also loves the rabbit tracks in the snow...and now I can see where the rabbit comes in by the space between the gate and the post. I bet Mr. Blue is a snowpuppy like her and sticks his nose right in the snow to get a good scent. That is so funny when they come up with a nose covered in snowflakes!

Re: Saddam - Just my humble opinion: ...sometimes I think that if the Iraqi people...I mean just the ordinary family people and the ordinary American families could just sit down together and get to know eachother (without the politicians) - there could be peace. I know that is probably naive to some- but how many times have you yourself misjudged a group of people..then when you get to know one of them in person - on a personal level- then you like them and realize they are much more like you, than different.

Thanks momPaws; we really do have fun together! I'm not sure how anyone couldn't have fun with our goofball hound dog, although I know someone didn't. Their loss, our gain (and, unfortunately, at Mr. Blue's loss of good care and quality time as a young pup). Sometimes I wonder why people even have a dog, when they seem to enjoy its company so little.
About your opinion about the Iraqi people; I think you're onto something there! I'd love to have the chance to invite an Iraqi family over for supper sometime, although I can see language being a BIG problem!
