Too wet nose????????

Post by Lisa K »

I know most people are concerned when their dog's nose is warm and dry, however my 2 yr old GSD mix has the opposite thing happening. Her nose is always wet and cold and when she sleeps on the chair or couch, which have sheets covering them, in a short period of time, a big wet ring appears under her nose/mouth about the size of a dessert plate or larger. The wet spot is like clear water, never cloudy, discolored or like mucous. She was at the vet one week ago for a booster and I asked the vet about this. He said something like......her being high strung and this could be a way of her getting rid of excess fluid or something. Could that be? She doesn't sneeze or cough, altho occasionally she will do some reverse sneezing and her eyes don't run - does this sound like an allergy thing? This doesn't happen with my other dog, nor with my previous dog. I wonder if I should take her back to the vet and have her nose and mouth examined more thoroughly? Can dogs drool while sleeping like some humans do?

I think Mr. Blue drools when he sleeps quite a bit. I can always tell when he's spent the day laying on our bed, because there's a wet spot there. Have you noticed her nose running much? I'm imagining dogs can get cold-like things, like we can, although I'm not sure. I don't know about the getting rid of excess fluid thing, although I suppose that could be. I'd recommend at least talking to your vet about again, since you're worried about it.

her being high strung and this could be a way of her getting rid of excess fluid or something. Could possible be the answer but either way i wouldn't worry about it cause it is normal but excessivly normal...as long as the fluid is clear and not white or reddish/orange..
sassie also has a wet nose, but not that wet, but wet enough to get your attention in the middle of the night

I've always heard that a wet nose has more to do with the humidity in the room than with the dog's health. Does her nose seem to be running when she's awake? Does it happen no matter where she sleeps (I'm thinking maybe an allergy source if it's always in the same place). It does seem like drooling while asleep would make more sense than a nose that only runs when she's asleep, but I guess anything is possible. That "excess fluid" idea does seem a bit far-fetched to me though.

Sometimes I will see a drop hanging from her nose when she's awake. And it seems that this does not happen (for the most part) when she is on the bed in the bedroom, just in the livingroom - either on the couch or the chair.
