Kitten with hairloss
Kitten with hairloss
I have a kitten who is about three months old now...when i got him as a stray (he was about 6weeks), he was very fluffly, almost looked coon like. When we first brought him home, we were battling with bouts of diariah(SP?) and sudden weight loss...but with some time and some care we got it under control. But now all of the sudden he's experiencing hairloss...the first signs of the loss was around his anus, and he's going bald from there straight up the bottom of his tail...now on either side of his temple, he is bald there too...his coat had thinned alot, but other then that no other balding areas...now i will say that we are treating him for fleas...we brought in two other strays around the same time we got him, and they had fleas...the other two kittens btw are fine, no hair loss....well he's very active, eats well and doesn't show signs of sickness...so is this something that should but rushed on...or could it just be from the fleas...oh btw, his balding spots show no sign of crustyness or irritation...anyone out there can tell me what it may be?...
Re: Kitten with hairloss
kinda sounds like a parasite, not sure...has this cat been seen by a vet recently? is it indoors only? are you administering flea/tick control?
Re: Kitten with hairloss
When you first got him, did you have him seen by your vet? Or did you treat the diarrhea/weight loss problem on your own?
As for now, get your kitten seen by your vet ASAP. Also inform your vet what brand/type of flea product application you applied to your kitten, he could be having an allergic reaction to it (if by chance you used an over-the-counter product, cease using them immediately, they are ineffective and many are toxic to cats, your vet can recommend a safe product like Frontline or Advantage,....your kitten may not even have fleas at all and may not even need a flea product application)
Only your vet can tell you what this problem is, he may need to do a skin scrape (painless procedure) and/or culture to rule out certain parasites vs fungal problems, vs allergic reactions to something in food or environment, etc.
