same thing with my male rocky. the shoes (of which sandals are the favorite) must be recently worn or he simply ignores them.

Valerian should not be used for more than 2 to 3 weeks at a time, as it may then be harmful or become addictive. Large doses or extended use may produce symptoms of poisoning. In extremely high doses, it may cause paralysis and a weakening of the heart. Continual use or high doses may lead to headaches and palpitations. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Use under medical supervision.
Traci beat me to the punch...I've self-studied herbs for human use and have known for years that one must be careful with Valerian. I go to a holistic vet and even she doesn't ever RX herbs for my cats, homeopathy yes, flower essences yes, herbs no. I'd question the use of valerian myself, Lindy. I know cats are very attracted to it, because I was using several years ago and Frodo would go nuts when I even took it out of the cupboard! If I'm not mistaken I believe valerian can cause liver damage, please reconsider.

Back on topic...I have a foot and shoe lover too...Frodo...can't get enough of those shoes and feet

I also equate it with the use of ephedra, it causes heart palpitations too, there's enough fatalities reported with ephedra, that valerian root should carry the same precautions. In this thread, the last thing a loving cat owner needs is for the cat to endure rigorous exercise while on valerian root. And starting this in a 12-week old kitten? Egads. Sorry, lindy, but your vet needs his head examined.

Your kitty should meet Daisy....msg

Daisy loves socks..... It's hilarious. And Scarlett does the same thing with Rob's shoes. She'll "drive" them all over the living room when he gets in from working **really** hard (so his shoes really stink).
