We seem to be having our share of pest problems lately...

Post by Marty »

There is a critter in our heating ducts, and it is driving Biscotti nuts! I think it is probably a rat....our house is on a crawl space, and the fellow who checks for termites has told us there have been rats (for the books, this is a nice middle income suburban neighborhood). So the ducts run under the house, and we have floor vents....and at least 2 or 3 times a day, Biscotti senses something there, barks, paws, etc. Not always the same vent, either. I finally gave in, and let Hubby put some rat poison in the crawl space, and I will watch the yard carefully. Someone suggested the electronic pest repellers, so I went out and got 2, but it doesn't say that they repel rats, and I won't put them in until I am comfortable that this one is gone. Anyone have experience, or ideas??????

Oh, Marty- sorry for your problem. We have had a mice problem in the cellar, but hopefully I caught then all with the traps. Your problem sounds more complicated since you can't get to the area easy. Hope someone has good idea for you.

Is the crawlspace opening from outside large enough for small animals like cats to get into? If so, last thing I would do is use rodenticides. With the change of cold weather, you might have neighborhood stray cats trying to find warmth.

On the otherhand, if you only hear the noise in the ducts, chances are it's a mouse, in which the electronic repellant might work (and might not)

The door to the crawl space fits tightly, so I don't think a cat can get in there. And Bisc doesn't do this at night when a cat would tend to be active.

I also can't say I've heard anything, but Bisc knows something is there...oh gosh, this could be anything! And the other dogs don't seem bothered....
