Hi. My grandma's cat has something wrong with its mouth and I was wondering if anyone here could help. She says cats have scent glands in their mouth (???) and that her cat's has turned all purply-black color. She won't take it to the vet because he is not sick, (but I think she should anyway).
I know this is not much info, but does anyone have any idea what could be wrong??

What part of the mouth is purple/black? (and don't say gland please)....is it the lip, tongue, palate, gumline, inside of cheek, etc?

How old is kitty and when was his last vet checkup?

It is the gumline. At first we thought it was an abcessed tooth but it doesn't seem to hurt him at all.
The cat is three years ago and he hasn't been to the vet in over a year.

it might just be normal pigment, or an abnormal infeection forming or a very abnormal squamus cell carcinoma..if it is the first then no problem, if it is the second two could be big problem for which the longer it goes on, the bigger the problem becomes..just cause cat is not acting sick does not mean diddly,,,if either of the two latter ones, when sickness occurs it is too late...
