Question on flushing and vacuuming ears

One week later, Biscotti's ears still look fairly clean. She has been getting Baytril once/day and Tresaderm twice. What could be the reason my Vet didn't do this...and another did? I know one reason is having to put her out...but to me, just clearing up the pseudomona was worth the risk ( I am being cautiously optomistic). The following day, I took Winnie in for a urinalysis, and he asked me how Biscotti was....I told him the truth, as I thought maybe the Vets were talking to each other, and I want to keep them on my side. I just don't understand why my own Vet did't do this....

Maybe he wasn't confident in the procedure. Also, pseudomonas are extremely hard to treat...it is an actual infection within an infection. Sometimes the infection is so deep-seated that it takes what seems like forever to clear......just when you think you have it under control, wham, its there again.

Continue to be diligent with current treatment, and for added measure, even when your vet says looks good, might continue treatment for another week after that, just to keep a handle on it (save for the tresaderm, need to ask your vet about that, you don't want to continue it for too long).

i never heard, or maybe another name, vacumning the ears...when they got bad i would use a toothbrush water pic, course they had to be sedated to do it but it really cleaned them out very well and then would syringe/ suck the fluid out and then medicate....only problem was it seemed really gross to use the dental pic on my teeth afterwards.......but how do you vacumn out the ears??

Davet, I wonder if it was the vet's technique, as in drying the ears after the flush (need those ears in a non-moisture environment)

I didn't see the actual procedure being done, but the tech told me it was a device that attached to the faucet to flush and then vacuum the gunk out. They told me her ears would sparkle, and they did (so much for my disbelieving mind!). I believe it was the tech who did it (she was older and seemed very experienced).

Yes, there is actually an ear flushing machine now. Auriflush or something like that.

I don't know how your vet is, but my vet is very open, and has no problem with second opinions either. I wouldn't hesitate to ask my vet why he didn't go with a procedure that another vet did that worked for me. Sure beats trying to second guess why he didn't go with that procedure
